Spain’s best cheeses will be on display in the “GourmetCheeses, Signature Cheeses” area, where cheese is the out-and-out star in an exhibition zone that has over 400 varieties.
Master Cheesemaker José Luis Martín is in charge of this specialised area for yet another year, where we can find as many varieties of cheese as palates to satisfy: cow, goat, sheep, pastoral or seasonal, soft or mould-rind cheeses, etc.
Under the umbrella of the next Show, the 8th GourmetCheeses, Best Spanish Cheeses Championship 2017, in which the best Spanish cheeses are awarded prizes in 15 different categories, based on among other things the milk, texture or body, this contest rewards the originality and quality of the producers.
At the last edition, more than 60 experts evaluated the over 500 samples entered into the competition (75% were artisan), until the overall winner was chosen: Subaida Curado, from the Subaida dairy, as overall winner and Best Spanish Cheese 2016. All leftover cheese is donated to charity organisations such as Caritas or soup kitchens.
